Time unit conversion

1. Concept

• Time conversion is the process of converting units of time measurement from one unit to another based on pre-established relationships. This makes it easier to calculate, compare, or apply in practice (e.g., converting hours to minutes, converting days to hours,...).

2. Basic units of time measurement

• Second (s): the standard unit in the SI system.
• Minute (min): 1 minute = 60 seconds.
• Hour (h): 1 hour = 60 minutes = 3,600 seconds.
• Day (d): 1 day = 24 hours = 86,400 seconds.
• Week: 1 week = 7 days = 168 hours = 604,800 seconds.
• Month (average): 1 month ≈ 30 days ≈ 2,592,000 seconds.
• Year: 1 year = 365 days (or 366 for a leap year) ≈ 31,536,000 seconds.

3. Conversion principle

• Convert from large unit → small unit: multiply by the conversion factor.
  Example: 2 hours = 2 × 60 = 120 minutes.
• Convert from small unit → large unit: divide by the conversion factor.
  Example: 7 200 seconds ÷ 3600 = 2 hours.
